BRIDGE ACROSS THE SANTA LUCIA ESTUARY IN MONTEVIDEO

Structurally, the Santa Lucia Bridge belongs to the group of solutions with strict box-girder on abacus piers; a construction method that enables the launching of constant depth box-girders.

Its special features are all related to the single cell box-girder which is laterally extended with cantilevering strut and tie systems made out of steel and set every 4 m.

The abacuses, which allow spanning the distance of the larger central spans, are made out of concrete and monolithically connected to the shafts of the piers so to create aesthetic T-shaped elements, on top of which the steel box-girder is launched.
