CABLE-STAYED BRIDGE IN ROQUETAS DE MAR

Project details

Technical Data

  • Total length: 120 m
  • Typical span: 60 m
  • Width: 17 m

Description

The structure of the cable-stayed overpassis composed of a single central pylon  and a bridge deck spanning two spans of 60 m each. The pylon in the middle of the roundabout in front of the shopping centre supports the deck symmetrically by means of 16 stay-cables.

The cables coexist with an interwoven box system at the inferior part of the pylon so as to create an abstract shape of a moving human body. It’s a sculptural form somewhere in-between the works of Roger Moore, Max Ernest and Hans Arp, though completely adjusted to the support function it has to fulfil.

The satin white color of the pylon creates an appearance which is varying depending on the intensity and color of the reflecting sunbeams.

The leading design requirement for the element that constitutes the pylon has been the creation of a decisively sculptural element that would determine the bridge as an idea of employment and artistic presence of a functional infrastructure, providing the city with a highly distinguished landmark, an attractive icon and a symbol of modernity and quality.
