Description

The New Cutural Centre of Pozuelo de Alarcón is the result of the merger of two structures; the first one being the existing city hall which underwent a serious alteration and the second one being a new building.

This new building is a locally prestressed, reinforced concrete mega-structure of sloping slabs and vertical shear walls which give the building its eye-catching shape that unifies the building’s structure with its architecture.

The important protruding cantilevers make use of the bearing capacity of their lateral shear walls. These are made out of prestressed reinforced concrete and work as cantilevered deep beams.

Beneath the building and the large square, which too is part of the design, car park and tunnels ease the access and transit of vehicles and ensure the strictly pedestrian character of the plaza.
