Description

The solution for the fourth bridge over the River Urumea was the winning tender proposal in response to in a restricted call for tenders issued by the San Sebastián city Council in 1992 and awarded in 1993.

The bridge design aimed to avoid any ostentation and its presence is not based on size or scale but on a  reiteration of  intensity and quality. This bridge quietly and calmly offers an image in line with  that expected of a civil engineering work of the beginning of the 21st century.

In structural terms, the bridge consists of a double composite box girder elastically built-in at the abutments. The bridge was  assembled by cantilevering-out both ends of the box girders and hoisting a central section from the river after it had been floated into position taking advantage of the high tide.
