Description

The essential idea behind this bridge design was to employ the same bridge section to span the large 70 m areas of the river as well as the shorter 58 m spans over the freshet areas. This concept was decided in order to obtain a powerful frieze or beam effect which was perfectly absorbed by the large octagonal shafts forming the piers. These piers, of generally modest height, are only slightly smaller in section that the bottom of the box girder and in this way the continuous 830 m length bridge may be observed in its entirety without any joints.

The bridge was constructed by using gradual launching.
