  • Width: 23.8 m

Description

Being classed as a hybrid structure composed of composite girdersand large concrete piers, this bridge over the Turia River features a very wide deck.

It uses a portal frame structure which piers are inclined. Its main innovation lies in the fact that, at the pier-girder connection, the structural steel webs of the girder are partially substituted for concrete. The continuity of the tensile-stressed steel parts of these webs all over the piers creates the wanted aesthetical appearance.

Erection has been carried out by means of a segmental construction process of the open box girder and posterior casting of the upper slab on top of corrugated steel sheets in the centre of the bridge. The cantilevering slabs have been cast using formwork carriage.
