Description

In the Aragon pavilion, the main volume of the building is raised about 8 m above ground level, forming a large, approximately parallelepipedal enclosure supported on three large shafts. The architectural aim of the structure is to represent or resemble a large wicker basket.

In order to create an area as diaphanous as possible below the building, only three mega-columns have been set out. They are running the full height of the building and house the lift shafts, stairwells and other verticalserviceducts. These mega-columns are made up of reinforced concrete shear walls.

In order to support the prestressed slabs at different levels, other mega-columns have been used. These ones are made out of largely spaced steel tubes so to allow the natural daylight to reach the  lower floors.
