Conclusions of the conference on the Eurocodes project on the State Road Network

A few days ago, we participated in the conference that the General Directorate of Roads of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility (Ministerio de Transporte y Movilidad Sostenible), with the collaboration of the Professional Association of Civil Engineers (Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos), has organized under the title “The project with Eurocodes in the State Road Network”.

The conference showed the great joint effort made by technicians from all European countries for the development of the current Eurocodes and the drafting of the 2nd generation of Eurocodes, which will soon be available, to make a modern, consensual, complete and coherent regulatory code. The incorporation of European regulations into the daily work of Spanish technicians is a challenge that implies overcoming the inertia of decades of using well-established regulations in the engineering common knowledge.

In this sense, the publication of the application guides promoted by the General Directorate of Roads is a great initiative to facilitate the transition to the use of the Eurocodes as reference standards in the structural and geotechnical project in Spain. With these guides, the compatibility of the Eurocedes and the associated product standards (UNE-EN) with the Spanish Structural Code (Código Estructural) is solved, especially in the field of materials, durability, execution, quality control and maintenance.

In MC2 Estudio de Ingeniería we are very proud to contribute to this normative development and to the necessary convergence with the rest of European countries.
