JAPANESE PAVILION AT EXPO 92 IN SEVILLE

This delicate but imposing and almost sacred building was designed as the Japanese Pavilion for the Seville Expo in 1992. The building’s interior contains an interesting array of structural systems which support the facades and create the designed architectural spaces:

-Large dougong structures made out of glued laminated timber

-Concrete structures with moving parts for sliding and revolving platforms

-Composite structures for heavily loaded frame areas

-Steel structures to hold the timber slats on the facade and steel space  frames to hold the tensioned fabrics of the roof

-Manufactured Kevlar fabrics for the final covering of the pavilion, in order to provide suggestive and natural internal lighting
