MIRAFLORES BRIDGE IN CORDOVA

The basic idea behind the bridge design was to create a large conceptual sculpture over the river Guadalquivir. This  sculpture is composed of two sturdy elements with a very simple form. A tap e red central element aligned with the river bed is used as pier and a large prismatic beam in Corten steel set perpendicular to this pier configures the deck.

The cross-section consists of a double composite action system with two lateral box girders connected to each other so as to form a very wide and slender simple cell section. So to achieve the required stiffness of the deck, which depth was limited by design requirements, it has been elastically built-in at pier and abutments.
