Description

The new Cantabria Regional Assembly building was the winner of an international call for tender which was answered by many of the world’s leading architects.

The building presents a large scale formal development, based on a forceful structural design, expressed in the form of glass façades set on a truss system with a double overhang, which creates a large cantilevered  volume serving as a covered area to the entrance of the building. This overhang is offset by  the connection of the trusses to the reinforced concrete service shaft set in the interior of the large cantilevered area.

The other structures, in addition to the façade, are formed in concrete, steel and composite elements. One of the main characteristics are the large bearing beams receiving the columns to the upper floors to form the entrance area.
