BUILDING FOR GENERAL COURT IN RIYADH

Description

The building has a rectangular plan of 170×120 m, divided into 6 parts by expansión joints. One of the singular structural elements of the building is the façade walls system. The horizontal slabs rest on these façade walls that, however, do not reach entirely down the foundation. Thus, the layout and performance of the façade walls determines a strongly three-dimensional behavior of the structure as a whole.

The height, proportion and orientation have been studied to merge both with the existing courts and with the other surrounding buildings. The architecture of Saudi Arabia is unquestionably an architecture with very few windows, so the original idea of the project is not to have windows on the facade, with offices overturned on the courtyards or with views directly to the North.
