Description

The store object of this remodelling and retrofitting project comprises 3No floors –basement 1, Ground floor and 1st floor- of Serrano 70 building, in Madrid.

The building was subjected to an entire renovation in 2009, during which only the original façade was maintained due to architectural heritage impositions.

The main structural intervention was to provide a new vertical circulation core, as the original store occupied the entire floor, and it was now being divided into 2No different stores.

The limitations imposed by the Property led to a series of structural interventions of a certain complexity, among which the following stand out:

  • A steel structure anchored to the columns was built up in order to support the lift pit and the lift structure itself, as it was not possible to affect the basement floor.
  • The staircase was also a challenge as the Property needed a cantilever step type staircase, with very narrow profiles and fragile architectural finishes.

In order to meet such requirements, a finite element model was created to take due account of the vertical deflections.
